DHV-XC - the online cross country portal for everyone

The DHV-XC is an online portal in which registered pilots can easily submit flights recorded by means of a flight instrument or app. Afterwards they can be converted into so-called igc files to than be viewed in detail by anyone.

In addition to the popularity of the German Cross-Country Championships held on this platform with all the sub-rankings, the many club and regional rankings and the intensive use as a personal flight log, the DHV-XC is therefore the easiest way to experience the flights of others and plan your own flight projects.

These don't always have to be record flights, it is just as interesting to see whether the weather is suitable for your home flying site, whether you have really missed something in the afternoon or whether it might be worth driving to your favorite flying site the next day. You can also share a flying adventure with friends that they have just experienced on the other side of the world and share your impressions via the comment function.

The DHV-XC offers something for everyone, just take a look and be surprised.

DHV XC Fun Cup

The idea of this cup is to give pilots with beginner wings (LTF 1/A) and tower kites the opportunity to compare their performance in an online competition. The Fun Cup is a ranking based on airtime. This is intended to take into account pilots who are not yet able to go on a course because they do not have a B license, or do not want to do so at all. 

The Fun Cup for paragliders and hang gliders runs from September 16 to September 15 of the following year.

In order to be able to submit flights for the Fun Cup, every pilot must first be registered in the DHV XC. In addition, DHV membership must be linked via the DHV ServicePortal.

Flights can be uploaded immediately after the requirements have been fufilled.

When submitting flights in the DHV XC, there is always the option of choosing a competition class. This means that when entering a flight, you must select the class in which the flight is to be rated. A flight with an LTF 1/A glider can be rated in the Fun Cup, but also in the standard class (LTF 1, 1-2 and A, B) at the same time. A flight with an LTF 1 tower kite can be rated in the Fun Cup and still be rated in the tower kite class at the same time.

If your paraglider has the LTF classification 1 or A, please click on "Fun Cup" in the competition class field. The flight will then be rated in the Fun Cup. 
If you are flying a glider with LTF classification 1, select the Fun Cup class (alternatively you can select "Open" and "Unrated"). The flight will be scored in the Fun Cup and automatically in the tower kite class.

In the Airtime Ranking, the flight time of all submitted flights is counted together and the winner is the one with the most flight hours. Of course, the flight hours of cross-country flights can also be found here.

In order for flights to be included in the ranking, the data of a flight must be recorded. This also requires the use of a flight instrument/app in the DHV Fun Cup.

The cheapest new devices are available for between €150 and €200, apps are available for little money or for free with a basic function. An adjustable recording interval (recording points per how many seconds), a sufficiently large memory and a long battery life are important. When purchasing a flight instrument, it makes sense to plan for later - if you may be undertaking cross-country flights lasting many hours, five to ten hours is quite possible. There are also combination devices that combine vario and GPS functions, but these can cost as much as a harness with a rescue system.

However, if you already know that you are interested in cross-country flying and want to train for it, you should consider buying a device that offers more functions than just those that are absolutely necessary. Wind offset display, final approach calculator or, above all, the display of airspaces can quickly become very useful.

Flights are entered easily and reliably via the DHV XC.

A recorded flight can either be uploaded directly to the DHV XC as an igc file without any intermediate steps using a suitable device or must be read out via a PC (the easiest way to do this is with the Program MaxPunkte program, which is provided free of charge by the DHV and can be downloaded. There are also other programs such as SeeYou, but these are subject to a charge).

The readout program generates a so-called igc file and provides it with a "G-record", which proves that the flight data has not been manipulated.

Now just save the flight or the igc file and upload it via the "My flight uploads" function on the DHV-XC page or directly with MaxPoints.

Immediately after submission, the flights will appear in the daily flight list and in the ranking lists.
