SubjectTow release Pilots Right Stuff DHV 06-0028-00

On a flexible tow release Pilots Right Stuff from the manufacturer Aerosport International GmbH, Grafenstraße 26, 83098 Brannenburg, following was observed:

  1. During a tow the main line broke near the knot where the magnet is attached.

  2. The lenght of the loop of the changeable, red 1,8mm line, where the secure pin is put through (see arrow in drawing), was too big.In this case it is possible to put the head of the secure pin through the loop which results in a malfunction when trying to release under load.

Funktioning of the PILOTS RIGHT STUFF tow release

In agreement with the manufacturer Aerosport International GmbH, Grafenstraße 26, 83098 Brannenburg, Tel: +49/8034/1034, Fax: +49/8034/3384, E-Mail: info@aerosport.de, the DHV has decided, as a precaution, on the following safety measure:

  • All tow releases must be checked before their next flight, by the manufacturer Aerosport international GmbH. Faulty parts have to be replaced.

The airworthiness instruction comes into force when published in the NFGH (paragliding and hanggliding news). The safety measures must be carried out before the next flight with the equipment.
