During a towing seminar it was recognised
that the gluing of the cotter pin (stainless steel tube) on the Bowden cable could free
itself as a result of faulty production batch and this can lead to the tow - release
becoming jammed.
In agreement with the manufacturer freeX
Airsports GmbH, Harmating 2, D-82544 Egling, Tel: 0049 (0) 8176 9302-0, Fax: 0049 (0) 8176
9302-044, Internet: www.freeX.com,
email: info@freex.com, the DHV
has decided on the following precautionary safety measures:
- All tow - releases of the type "freeX Control" must undergo a check of the
gluing of the cotter pin. It is to be determined by a load test of 15kg if the
cotter pin comes loose from the Bowden cable. Furthermore it is to be determined if the
cotter pin aligns with the plastic sheathing of the wire releaserope. Both checks can be
carried out by the pilot, or the tow - release can be sent to the company freeX Airsports
GmbH who will carry out the check free of charge.
- If the cotter pin comes loose from the Bowden cable or the distance between the cotter
pin and the plastic sheathing is greater than 1mm then the tow - release must be returned
to freeX Airsports GmbH where it will be repaired free of charge.
This airworthiness instruction comes into force when it is published in
the News for Paragliders and Hang Gliders (NfGH). The precautionary safety measure must be
carried out before the equipment is flown again.
